Wallpaper Guide
Below you will find everything you need to know about our wallpapers, from ordering quantities through to installation and care.
- SPECIFICATION
-
All our Wide Width Wallpapers are:
- Are printed on non-woven paper made of cellulose and polyester
- Supplied already trimmed, with a tear-off selvedge on both sides
- Installed using overlap and splice technique
- Are sold by the yard, like fabric
The printed width varies between 51 3/4" and 55"
- PANELS & BESPOKE PRINTING
-
Four of our wallpaper patterns were designed to be printed as panels, tailor-made to fit your room height:
We can print our other wide width wallpapers as panels to save on wastage. Particularly economical for designs with a straight repeat.
Panels are not suitable for staircases.
- ALTERNATIVE SUBSTRATES
-
All our wallpapers can also be printed on the two following substrates, as part of our Studio Service:
- A semi-gloss, pearl finish.
- Slightly deeper colour than our standard wide width wallpaper so colourways come out a little creamier.
- Fine, woven texture.
- Achieves highest fire ratings so ideal for the contract market.
- Narrower than our standard non-woven paper, so printing on Vinyl substrate results in approximately 10% reduction on width and vertical repeat. This needs to be taken into account when calculating quantity.
Please contact the office at info@lewisandwood.com for all Studio Service enquiries.
- CALCULATING QUANTITIES
-
To calculate the amount required view our online guide.
Ideally we recommend asking your installer to calculate the quantity of wallpaper needed for a particular project.
Measurements for each wallpaper design are listed on each product page.
But if you are planning to paper a standard room and would like to calculate the quantity of wallpaper yourself, our online calculator makes it easy.
If you need a precise colour match to a previous order, please let us know when ordering.
- WALLPAPER PASTE
-
We recommend a good quality, pre-mixed, heavy-duty paste such as Solvite, Polycell or Halls B-Line.
Hanging Wallpaper
- Pattern Repeats
-
Straight Repeat
Two similar units of pattern match side by side.
All drops are the same and can be cut in sequence.
Half Drop Repeat
Each unit matches halfway down the next.
There are two alternating drops, which can be cut in sequence or alternately.
- Damp Environments
-
For use in areas with higher humidity:
- Ensure the surface is clean and dust-free
- Apply a thin coat of Polyvine Acrylic Varnish (Satin finish)
- If preferred, follow with a Matt finish
- Several thin coats are better than one thick coat
- Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next
- Cleaning & Care
-
- Use a soft brush to remove dust, working from top to bottom
- Avoid excessive water or detergent
- Baby wipes can be useful for light marks
- Always test a small, inconspicuous area first
- Avoid soaking the paper or letting water reach the seams
- Do not use abrasive materials
A soft cloth or sponge is best for cleaning.
